Getting started with SkillSprout Studio

Everything you need to go from idea to a live activity kids can play β€” no coding, no design skills, just your knowledge and a sprinkle of emoji.

πŸš€ Getting started in 6 steps

1

Sign in with Google

Head to the Studio home page and continue with your Google account. That's the whole sign-up β€” you're a SkillSprout builder now.
2

Create a new activity

Click New activity and pick a game style. Not sure which? Flashcards is the friendliest place to start β€” great for teaching any set of things (animals, planets, professions, feelings…).
3

Choose where it lives

Pick which part of SkillSprout your activity belongs in (Science, Games, Finance…), and either an existing category or a brand-new one with its own name and emoji.
4

Add your content

Fill in the editor's friendly forms β€” emoji, words, questions or difficulty sliders depending on the game style. Your work autosaves as you type, and any problems are explained in plain English.
5

Play-test it live

The preview beside the editor is the real SkillSprout app running your draft β€” tap around, hear the sounds, earn the stars. Use Test fullscreen for a proper play session. Nothing you play in the preview is recorded.
6

Send it for review

Happy with it? Hit Send for review. The SkillSprout team plays every submission; you'll see the status on your dashboard, and any feedback appears right in your editor so you can fix and resubmit.
πŸ’‘ Tip: the whole loop β€” from β€œNew activity” to β€œSent for review” β€” takes about 10 minutes for a Flashcards deck. Start small, see it live, then get ambitious.

🎨 The game styles

Every template is a real, kid-tested SkillSprout game engine. The gameplay, sounds, scoring and animations are built in β€” you supply the content or tune the difficulty.

πŸƒ
Flashcards

Tap a card, hear its name β€” perfect for teaching new words and ideas.

Add a card for each thing you want kids to learn. Pick an emoji, name it, and (optionally) write exactly what the app should say out loud.

❓
Quiz

Multiple-choice questions with stars, sounds and confetti.

Write simple questions with 2–4 answer choices and mark the correct one. Questions are shuffled every time kids play.

🧠
Memory Match

Flip cards to find matching pairs β€” a classic memory game.

Add pairs of things to match. Easy games use 4 of your pairs, Medium 6, Hard 8 β€” so add at least 8 pairs to unlock all levels.

πŸ”’
Counting

β€œHow many?” picture questions with three answers to pick from.

Set how many things appear at each level. Kids count the pictures and tap the right number.

βž•
Adding

Picture sums like 2 + 3, sized for little mathematicians.

Set how big the sums get at each level.

βž–
Subtracting

Take-away picture questions with crossed-out friends.

Set how big the starting number gets at each level.

βœ–οΈ
Multiplying

Groups-of-things multiplication, drawn in pictures.

Set the biggest numbers on each side of the Γ— at every level.

βž—
Dividing

Sharing-into-groups division with picture hints.

Set how hard the sharing gets at each level.

🎯
Tap & Catch

Numbers float around β€” tap the right one before it drifts away!

Set how many bubbles float around, how big the numbers get, and how fast they move.

πŸ«™
Fill the Jar

Drag the right number of goodies into the jar.

Set the biggest target number and how many items sit in the pool.

🧩
Match the Objects

Drag each picture onto its twin.

Set how many pairs appear on screen at each level.

✏️ Editing & the live preview

Autosave: drafts save automatically a moment after you stop typing β€” you can close the tab and pick up where you left off.

Emoji, not images: visuals come from a curated, kid-safe emoji picker. It keeps every activity fast, consistent and appropriate β€” and it's surprisingly expressive!

Speech: Flashcards can say a custom phrase when a card is tapped (defaults to the card's name). Quiz questions are read aloud automatically for pre-readers.

Levels: maths and arcade templates give you Easy 🐣 / Medium 🐰 / Hard 🦁 sliders. Memory Match sizes its levels from how many pairs you add β€” add 8+ pairs to unlock all three.

The preview is real: it's the actual SkillSprout app rendering your draft in a sandbox. If it feels good there, it will feel good to kids.

πŸ›‘οΈ Review & publishing

Nothing reaches kids without a human review. When you submit, an immutable snapshot of your activity goes to the SkillSprout team, who play it exactly as kids would.

Approved πŸŽ‰ β€” your activity goes live in the SkillSprout app, in the module and category you chose, credited to you.

Changes requested πŸ’¬ β€” you'll see the reviewer's notes in your editor. Edit and resubmit as many times as you like.

Updating a live activity β€” hit Edit on a published project. Your live version keeps running until the update is approved, then it's swapped in seamlessly.

A few fair-use limits keep the queue healthy: at most 3 activities waiting for review at once, and 10 submissions per day.

🌟 Content guidelines

SkillSprout is for ages 3–6. Great activities are:

  • Simple & warm β€” short words, friendly tone, one idea per card or question.
  • Genuinely teaching something β€” a topic, a skill, a word, a number. β€œFun with a point.”
  • Kind β€” nothing scary, violent, branded, or promotional; no personal information.
  • Accurate β€” reviewers fact-check; a wrong β€œcorrect answer” is the most common reason for a changes-requested note.

Reviewers may also tidy category names to avoid near-duplicates (e.g. β€œAnimals” vs β€œanimals”).

Who can build?

Anyone with a Google account β€” teachers, parents, older kids with a grown-up, hobbyists. Building is free.

Can I edit an activity after it's live?

Yes β€” reopen it, edit, and resubmit. The live version stays up until your update is approved.

Why emoji instead of image uploads?
